Watch the video below for a fascinating “behind-the-scenes” peek at a discussion by the members of the ESV Translation Oversight Committee concerning the translation of the Hebrew word “ebed” and the Greek word “doulos.” The ESV Text Edition 2011 will have about 500 word changes, most of which we would never notice, but I find the “slave” issue to be important and interesting. I have reviewed on this site John MacArthur’s book Slave and also highly recommend Slave of Christ by Murray Harris.
When I have more time (say around the year 2030), I will write more about my own take on this translation debate.
