Three Amigos is one of those movies that was an overall letdown, but had interspersed moments of pure brilliance that makes the film a true classic. The clip below is what I consider to be one of the great speeches in cinematic history – dubbed by those of us who love it simply as “the El Guapo Speech.”
I can watch it a hundred times in a row and I will laugh out loud every time at this line: “. . .the people of Santa Poco can conquer their own personal El Guapo who also happens to be the actual El Guapo.”
Pure genius.
I feel similarly about the President’s speech in Independence Day, which we may have talked about before. The rest of the movie is fun, and the speech kindof jingoistic, but it never fails to tear me up when I hear it (sniff).
“We will NOT go softly into that good night…”
Absolutely! Maybe we should make a “best speeches” blog.
