The Benefits of Consistency

At the beginning of the new year I had told my wife Andi that I was going to be more consistent in writing on PhilipMeade.com in 2014. It has taken me about a month to get going, but over the last few days I have written a blog post every day or every other day. I was amazed to rediscover what I already knew. The number of visitors to PhilipMeade.com skyrockets when I am consistent in my writing, even for a couple of days. My daily visitors was hovering around 40-50 a day when I was not writing. After writing just a couple of articles in a row, the number has tripled, and not just on the days where there is a new post. The key to increased readership if you own a blog is consistency. Writing every day or every other day or even 3 times a week is essential for a steady flow of readers.

The Bible has something to say to us about consistency. Oh, not in the sense that we increase our readership on a blog, for what eternal value does a daily visitor count have? But consistency in the Bible is linked with others and with claiming the prize of the high calling in Christ Jesus. Check these verses out:

“Show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works…” Titus 2:7

“And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” Galatians 6:9

“Let what you say be simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’…” Matthew 5:37

I can think of a few benefits of being consistent in our faith, our family, our work, and our commitments:

1. Consistency helps proclaim your identity with Christ. To show ourselves in all respects to be a model of good works means that we are consistent in every area of our life with the things of lasting value. One of the best witnesses you can have for Christ is your consistency and dependability.

2. Consistency brings us the reward of Christ. Do not be weary in doing good and doing good consistently. Why? Because God will grant your reward in due time.

3. Consistency is a sign of loving your neighbor. All of us have struggled with people in our lives who are inconsistent and undependable. All of us have struggled with being that person from time to time. Pastorally speaking, few things are more discouraging than to see a person get excited, commit, and fall away after a short while. So often this happens because we attempt to perform with our own strength and determination rather than the strength of Christ (Colossians 1:29). I know of few things more edifying for our neighbor than our consistency.

Do you consider yourself a consistent person? Do others think of you as dependable? This is a quality that each of us can improve on and for which each of us are dependent on God. Perhaps this is a good day to ask God for a change of heart and to begin turning toward a life marked by consistency in our love and service to God and each other.

  1. I am consistant to God by living close to him with compassion. That. Means not to satisfy onlookers but God. Next I want to be responsible to my families needs. I was invited to an al-anon special class, a SS class party and third my husband coming home from rehab for a visit this weekend. I truly feel I best serve my Lord and my family by this choice.

That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

    Blessings, Bonita
